Virtual Model UN conference for Floral Park and Carey students

Model United Nations Club members from both Floral Park Memorial High School and H. Frank Carey High School participated in an immersive and educational virtual conference on Jan. 18.

Run by upperclassmen members, the conference consisted of three committees: a novice General Assembly, a General Assembly and a Crisis Committee. The General Assembly tackled the refugee crisis in the Middle East and the Crisis Committee explored the Bloody Sunday Massacre in 1970s Ireland. Students worked arduously to solve the issues they were presented with, from the point of view of their country’s delegation or character.

At the end of the conference, delegates were awarded for their outstanding performances.

For the Crisis Committee, Carey student Chris Stacchini earned a verbal commendation, Floral Park student Kathleen McInnis earned a crisis commendation, Floral Park student Dylan Cummings earned an Honorable Mention Award, Floral Park student Sophia Ponce earned an Outstanding Delegate Award and Floral Park student Emerson Lucatorto won the Best Delegate Award.

For the General Assembly, Carey student Sam Hanlon earned a verbal commendation, Floral Park student Suki Vesecky earned a verbal commendation, Carey student Zaara Khan earned an Honorable Mention Award, Floral Park student John Dimeo earned an Outstanding Delegate Award and Carey student Gavin Levitt won the Best Delegate Award.

For the novice General Assembly, Floral Park student Maya Barravecchio was recognized with a Best Position Paper honor, Carey student Dominic Deluca earned an Honorable Mention Award, Carey student Daniel McHugh earned an Honorable Mention Award, Floral Park student Oscar Dalton earned an Honorable Mention Award, Floral Park student Anna Segota won an Outstanding Delegate Award, Floral Park student Michael Donovan won an Outstanding Delegate Award and Floral Park student Chloe Iannitti won the Best Delegate Award.
