Italian for Travelers
Wednesdays, April 24, May 1, 8 and 15, 7 to 8:30 p.m.
$10 cash fee due at registration. This course allows students to rapidly learn basic conversation skills typical of everyday life and situations. Four sessions are designed to reach a “survival level” of Italian language knowledge. Each topic will also be enriched by insider information about Italian culture and lifestyle. Presented by Elena Florenzano of Thinking Italian. Register at the reference desk.

CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS

Magical Ceramic Fairy Door
Monday, April 22, 4:30 to 5 p.m.
Grades 1 and up. Decorate a detailed, ceramic, magical fairy door. Take it home and use it indoors or put it outdoors against the trunk of a tree for Earth Day. Register in the children’s room or call 516-746-8488 ext. 1.

LEGO Builder Buddies
Tuesdays April 23 and 30, 4 to 5 p.m.
Kindergarten and up. Children play with Legos and build Lego structures with the help of a buddy (teen volunteer). If there is time, they may also play board games together with their buddy (Legos and games belong to the library and are not to be taken home).

Teddy Bear Clinic with NYU Winthrop Hospital
Wednesday, April 24, 2 p.m.
Pre-K to Grade 2. Bring a teddy bear, stuffed animal or doll to this event. Join medical staff from NYU Winthrop Hospital for this hands-on safety and education program. Topics such as car and helmet safety will be presented in a fun and interactive way. Children will dress up as doctors and nurses and take care of their stuffed animals at different “medical” stations. Register in the children’s room or call 516-746-8488 ext. 1.

DIY Terrarium
Thursday, April 25, 2 p.m.
Ages 2 1/2 years old to Grade 2 (with adult caregiver)
In person only sign up.  A $5 per pair (one adult/one child) exact cash only instructor’s fee is due at sign up and is non-refundable. Create a tiny world in a jar with instructor Theresa Maritato. You will add soil succulents and rocks to celebrate Earth Day. Register in the children’s room.
