Adult programs

Monday, Aug. 5 at 7 p.m.; Excelsior! The Amazing Life of Stan Lee: This program traces Stan Lee’s incredible creative journey in the comic book industry across a nearly 70 year career that ended with his passing at the age of 95 in November 2018. Please register at the reference desk or call 516-746-8488 ext. 2. This program is open to adults and tweens/teens ages 12 and up.

Wednesday, Aug. 7 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; Nassau County Clerk Mobile Office: The Nassau County Clerk’s mobile office is on the road, offering county clerk services to Nassau County residents. Office representatives will be able to provide certified copies of land records (deeds, mortgages, and mortgage satisfactions) and notary services for a fee. In addition, the mobile office will also offer Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell’s Veterans Recognition Program, where office representatives can process veteran discharge papers (DD-214) and provide our Veterans Discount Card, free of charge. This event will take place in the library community room.

Saturday, Aug. 10 from 10:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.; Empire Safety Council defensive driving class: Individuals of all ages may attend. A check for $27 payable to Empire Safety Council is due at registration. One check per attendee. Please register at the reference desk.

Children’s programs

Monday, Aug. 5 at 4 p.m.; Extraterrestrial turtles presented by the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum: For ages 2-and-a-half years old to entering Grade 1. Discover how cosmonauts on the International Space Station are getting an extraterrestrial view of baby turtles. Learn how fragile these little critters are, see and touch a turtle shell, and create a floating turtle craft. Please register in the children’s room or call 516-746-8488 ext. 1.

Tuesday, Aug. 6 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Craft mashup: For all ages. Come and create your own masterpiece using craft supplies from the programs past. No sign up required. Materials available while supplies last.

Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 7 p.m.; Space Explorers: For ages 4 to 7 years old (with adult). Celebrate all things space. Children will be reading stories, playing games, and making a craft. Please register in the children’s room or call 516-746-8488 ext. 1.

Thursday, Aug. 8 from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.; Bubblearium: For ages 3 years old to entering Grade 1 (with adult). Join the “Science Wizard,” Professor Anthony Abbate, and explore bubble solutions, colored bubbles, bubble trumpets, bubble printing, bubble juggling, and more. Register in the children’s room or call 516-746-8488 ext. 1.
