It was a cold evening with snow on the ground but at the United Methodist Church of Port Washington First Annual Community Christmas Event, there was warmth and joy! Over 75 neighbors came to enjoy the evening, a gift from the members of the Church.

The children who came enjoyed hayrides with Santa, decorated cookies, made ornaments and ate s’mores they made in the outdoor fire pit.

Parents sipped hot chocolate and hot cider and relaxed in the splendidly decorated sanctuary to hear carols played by Music Director Edmund Needham.

After having his photo taken with all the children, Santa emerged to announce the tree lighting which brought cheers from the crowd.

This very first Annual Community Christmas Event was offered by the United Methodist Church at 35 Middle Neck Road, phone (516)883-1430, www.umcpw.org. Worship services are at 10 am on Sundays with infant care and Sunday School.
