Volunteer opportunities and the Great Give Back at the Manhasset Public Library

The Island Now

Nothing sustains connections and supports change for the better more than opportunities to volunteer and give back. The Manhasset Public Library hopes to assist parents in raising children who are engaged with their communities, who help others in need and who work to make the world a better place. Volunteering reinforces these values and helps youngsters to develop empathy, compassion, tolerance and gratitude. The benefits of volunteering are enormous and the library has opportunities for both teen volunteering and for the community to give back.

Teens can sign up for the Teen Volunteer Corps to work on community service projects or assist with library programs and events. Information can be found on the library web page’s Teen Zone or by calling (516) 627-2300 x301 or emailing mplteenzone@manhassetlibrary.org.

This October, libraries across the island are sponsoring public work activities that underscore our commitments to make a difference and help transform the community. The Manhasset Public Library will be sponsoring the Great Give Back Food Drive. The library is partnering with local organization, Neil’s Wheels, to collect nonperishable food donations for Long Island Cares. Boxes for donations will be located in the lobby. Donations of nonperishable food will be collected from Oct. 12 through Oct. 15. We will host a kickoff day Oct. 13 as part of the island wide Give Back initiative and will offer additional service activities and opportunities.
