The Art Guild of Port Washington, an award-winning art school and gallery announced three community-focused initiatives to help people of all ages feel connected and creative via a neighborhood Rainbow Hunt; their new TAG at Home web portal featuring free online tips, demonstrations and micro-lessons; and a call for artists of all mediums for “BE HAPPY: Art that Makes You Smile,” an online juried competition and exhibition open to all.
“During these uncertain times, it is all the more important to instill a sense of community, encourage physical activity, inspire creativity, and convey happiness,” said Lisa Grossman, executive director of The Art Guild. “As a community-based organization, The Art Guild has created new interactive programs which encourage artists and families locally and around the world to look on the bright side, relieve stress and help make people smile during this uncertain time.”
The three initiatives include:
The Rainbow Hunt: A Community Project. Inspired by a social media post, The Art Guild formalized a Rainbow Hunt encouraging families to place rainbows in their windows and go outside to count the rainbows popping up in their neighborhoods (maintaining safe social-distancing of course).
TAG at Home: When you can’t make it to The Art Guild, The Art Guild comes to you! The organization has devoted a portion of their website for tips, micro-lessons, demonstrations and artist prompts so that students can continue to learn from the Art Guild’s award-winning artists and get creative while they’re at home or away.
BE HAPPY! Art That Makes You Smile: A new online Juried Competition and Exhibition calls for artists and photographers to submit works for consideration that inspire, uplifts the soul and makes them smile. The artworks will be curated and accepted images will be featured in an online “gallery.”
With reduced fees and an online-only reception, the exhibition will be accessible to all. The deadline for submissions is April 13. This virtual juried competition and exhibition will be voted on by more than three hundred Art Guild members, with artists being awarded TAG’s People’s Choice Awards.
