Sunday classes examine Zionist history

Rabbi Molly Karp leads readings and discussions of Zionist history and thought

Rabbi Molly Karp, a noted Jewish educator, will lead discussions of the writings of Zionists Moses Hess, Theodor Herzl, Ahad Ha-Am, Martin Buber, Chaim Weismann, David Ben-Gurion and many others on four Sunday evenings at Congregation Tifereth Israel in Glen Cove.

The 7 p.m. classes are on Jan. 20, March 3 and 17, and April 21. Prior knowledge is not needed. There is no charge for the classes, but donations are encouraged to support Karp’s honorarium.

The spiritual leader of Temple Beth El in Oneonta, Karp holds a BA in Judaic studies from SUNY-Binghamton, an MA in religious education from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, and has pursued doctoral studies in Hebrew bible at the Jewish Theological Seminary.

Karp was ordained as a rabbi by the Academy for Jewish Religion. She is a faculty member at the Gold Och Academy in New Jersey and teaches Torah, Hebrew and other aspects of Judaism at many other venues, including Congregation Tifereth Israel.
