Safe outdoor High Holiday services in Manhasset

The Island Now

Back by popular demand, Chabad of Manhasset will be hosting their High Holiday services. Last year when everything shut down, Chabad set out to find a safe outdoor option for Manhasset residents to participate in in-person High Holiday services. They held their services in an oversized home backyard in Plandome under a canopy. The results were overwhelmingly positive. Shelley Scotto who lives in Manhasset said, “The high holidays were beautiful. It was a pleasure meeting new and old friends in such a lovely setting. The Rabbi and his family make everyone feel so welcome. This is truly a special way to partake of High Holidays in Manhasset”. This year, they have cranked it up a notch. The services will take place at the Strathmore Vanderbilt Country Club on an outdoor patio, under a canopy. CDC guidelines will be adhered to. Masking, distancing & temperature taking will be instituted if the guidelines require it at the time. Security Guards will be present.

Chabad has an open-door policy for all its programs and services, particularly the High Holiday services. “We feel it is important that everyone in our community has an opportunity to participate in the High Holidays”, said Sarale Paltiel, director of Chabad of Manhasset. “Here, we’re all family,” added Paltiel. You can expect to experience soulful and relatable services led by Rabbi Mendel Paltiel & visiting cantor. The service is interactive, full of commentary, humor, stories and contemporary messages blended with timeless melodies. Hebrew and English prayer books will be provided. All are welcome, regardless of affiliation or level of observance.

Rosh Hashanah services will be held on September 7th & 8th from 10:00 AM-11:30 AM. They will also be hosting a 30 minute, inspirational “Shofar in the Park” program on September 7th at 4:00 PM. It will take place at Mary Jane Davies Park on Plandome Rd. This will serve as a great opportunity for those that can’t make it to synagogue. Yom Kippur services will be held on September 15th, 7:00 PM-8:00 PM and September 16, 10:00 AM-11:30 AM followed by the Yizkor Memorial Service.

All services are FREE but pre-registration is required for security purposes.
