Readers Write: Support Saur for Port Library board seat on April 9

The Island Now

If you have school-aged children in Port Washington, most likely they have benefitted from one of the many programs organized by Adrienne Saur, who is running for a seat on the board of the Port Washington Public Library.

Saur inaugurated the STEAM Fair at the library in 2015 and followed up with a second one this past Sunday, bringing together professional scientists and organizations for the Port Washington community. During the last four years, she organized and ran 13 STEM/STEAM events for the library and at Guggenheim, Manorhaven, and Daly Elementary Schools.

In addition, she ran stations at four other events, including at Sousa and Salem Elementary Schools. As PTA/HSA presidents at Manorhaven and Guggenheim during some of these years, we can attest to the infectious enthusiasm she and her volunteers brought to our students and families.

It was invaluable to have someone willing to come into our schools, plan an inspiring event in its entirety, and ask for nothing in return except minimal expenses and pizza for the student volunteers. Time and again, when Saur sets out to turn her visions into reality, she manages to achieve her goals while staying within budget.

As a nearly 20-year resident of Port Washington, Saur has been long active in our community. She was the corresponding secretary for the Daly HSA for many years before moving on to serve as co-president of Agate of Port Washington where she advocated for enrichment programming.

She continues to be a part of the school community, mentoring over 20 Schreiber students for their senior experiences, in addition to guiding middle and high school students in bringing their ideas to life for their stations at the STEM/STEAM events.

Anyone who has spent time with Saur can appreciate her passion for science and technology and her strong belief in lifelong learning.

She has a track record for creating new opportunities for our community. As trustee, she will continue to bring her energy and her vision to our library.

Please join us in voting for Adrienne Saur on Tuesday, April 9 at the Port Washington Public Library.
