Readers Write: Abramson-Brooks needed on Port BOE

The Island Now

We are writing to urge our fellow Port Washington residents to vote for Deborah Abramson-Brooks for the Board of Education. This is a critical time for the Port Washington schools. A new superintendent will soon start which gives our school district a chance to chart an exciting course for our children. We need an educational leader like Deborah on the school board to ensure that the superintendent receives the support she or he requires to plan and implement needed changes.

As a school board member, Deborah has committed to:

  • Work to ensure all students receive a developmentally appropriate education, focusing on their academic, physical, social, and emotional growth.
  • Act in a fiscally responsible manner to maximize the efficient and effective use of our tax dollars.
  • Continue to use her well-established public education advocacy network to help to ensure Port Washington receives the funding and educational programs we deserve.

We have known Deborah through our work together on educational issues and the school district’s Legislative Task Force. She is a highly successful educational advocate who will be a great resource for the community and for our new superintendent.

Every day we see many young children in our neighborhood whose families moved to Port Washington because of our schools. We owe it to them to have someone with Deborah’s knowledge and experience to represent us all on our Board of Education. Please join us in voting for Deborah Abramson-Brooks on Tuesday, May 21.
