Readers Write: Concerns about mailed-in ballots

The Island Now

I had written to Congresswoman Kathleen Rice two months ago about my concern regarding massive mail-in ballots as I, like everyone else, wants a valid outcome.

Her response, which I received Oct. 24, was remiss regarding the safety from fraud regarding the massive mail-in ballots.

She tried to convince me of the need for this due to the pandemic and that it is very safe from fraud.

The early voting ability here in New York (and across the country for that matter), already accommodates the COVID challenges.  We also have the absentee-ballot application system as always. That being said, accepting mail-in ballots beyond the Nov. 3, 2020 postmark, or even not postmarked at all – is unprecedented and a farce.

It’s like having a horse race with no finish line. I’m very frustrated by her response about the safety of the ballots when we already know of discarded ballots found in dumpsters.

Editor’s Note: New York State is not accepting ballots that have not been postmarked by nov. 3.  All ballots must be postmarked.
