Readers Write: AG James should drop NRA probe

The Island Now

In response to Dr. Hal Sobel’s letter of May 24, 2019, “Internal warfare puts NRA on ropes,” I offer the following quotes from Mao Tse Tung:
“Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.”
“Power comes from the muzzle of a gun, those that have the guns have the power, those that have the power dictate what type of government there shall be.”
“All political power comes from the barrel of a gun. The communist party must command all the guns; that way, no guns can ever be used to command the party.”
I also offer following facts about genocide in countries that disarmed their citizens.
1911 – Turkey between 1915-1917 murdered 1.5 million Armenians.
1929 – Russia between 1929-1953 murdered 20 million Russians.
1935 – China between 1948-1952 murdered 45 million Chinese.
1938 – Germany between 1939-1945 murdered 11 million, including 6 million Jews.
1956 – Cambodia between 1975-1977 murdered 1 million educated people.
1964 – Guatemala between 1964-1981 murdered 100,000 Mayan Indians.
1970 – Uganda between 1971-1979 murdered 300,000 Christians.
It is also worth noting that on Dec. 29, 1890, the military ordered the Lakota Sioux Indians at Wounded Knee on the Pine Ridge Reservation to surrender their weapons. A shot was fired by an unidentified gunman resulting in the government troops opening fire on the mostly unarmed Lakota people. They massacred 290 Sioux men, women and children, including many trying to flee, in a matter of minutes. Two hundred of the Sioux were women and children. On June 2, 1924, Congress granted citizenship to all Native Americans born in the United States.
Sobel seems quite pleased that New York State Attorney General Letitia James has opened an investigation into the NRA’s tax-exempt status. As a NYS taxpayer I believe AG James’ investigating skills and time should be used to assist Comptroller Scott Stringer and the City Council on an accounting of the $250 million a year mental-health program Mayor De Blasio created for his wife Chirlane McCray to run. If that doesn’t interest AG James, she could try investigating the Clinton Foundation.
As for the loving Obama, many saw through his façade and how he wanted to fundamentally change this country. That is why legal gun sale records were set during his tenure. In addition, Obama also should have spent some time in Chicago, where he was a community organizer, state senator and U.S. senator, consoling some of the families of the 4,000-plus victims of gun violence there during his time as president. Please note that Chicago has the toughest gun laws in the nation.
The real problem is the lack of treatment for the mentally ill and governments that disarm or want to disarm their citizens.
