Port Washington, N.Y. —Manorhaven Elementary School in Port Washington is thrilled to announce that fifth-grader Vritti Gor is a seventh-place national winner in the InvestWrite Spring 2019 competition for the elementary school division. Following her participation in the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association Foundation’s Stock Market Game, Vritti submitted an essay which analyzed an investment scenario and recommended a strategic plan for short and long-term financial goals of a company.

The building’s fifth-grade classes joined the Board of Education, central administration and Vritti for a surprise celebration facilitated by Dr. Bonni Cohen, principal of Manorhaven Elementary School and Jeanne Zeh, PEP teacher, in conjunction with a representative from the SIFMA Foundation. Vritti was presented with an InvestWrite trophy and medal, a large banner and a $100 gift card to commemorate her participation and success in the competition.

The SIFMA Foundation’s Stock Market Game, an online simulation of global capital markets, provides students with an opportunity to hone their 21st century skills and acquire knowledge of economics and finance. In order to be eligible for the InvestWrite contest, which explores practical-decision making, teachers and students must be active participants in SIFMA’s Stock Market Game. With guidance from their teachers, students submit their original work, representative of their own research, thinking and writing. In the elementary school division, students must submit an essay between 300-800 words. Essays are judged based on the author’s understanding of the subject matter, rationale, and writing style.
