Port Washington School District athletic director Stephanie Joannon was inducted into New York State Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame this past weekend.

The ceremony was held at the historic Glens Fall Civic Center and Joannon was one of 12 inductees in the Class of 2016.

“Being inducted into the Hall of Fame for doing something that I love is a great honor,” Joannon said. “I am so grateful and humbled to be among so many great coaches in the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame.  I’m also thankful for the opportunity the Port Washington Schools gave me as their varsity coach and to the amazing players who have played on the courts of Schreiber [High School].”

Joannon coached the girls varsity basketball team at Schreiber for 25 years amassing 326 wins.

She was the first and only female in Nassau County to reach the 300-win milestone.

Joannon also coached the scholastic and open divisions of the Empire State Games, winning medals in each, and coached in the inaugural Newsday Classic at the Nassau Coliseum.

She was named Nassau Coach of the Year four times.

She said her role as director of athletics for the Port schools took her away from the coaching sidelines, but that she still remains active in Nassau County and New York State basketball as the Section VIII coordinator.

School officials said they would like to congratulate Joannon for her induction into the New York State Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame.
