Plainview Hospital unveiled its newly-renovated telemetry unit at a ribbon-cutting event last week. The 7,000-square-foot space features 17 rooms designated for medical and surgical patients who require constant monitoring.
The $2 million makeover allowed for the redesign of 10 private rooms, each fitted with Corian headboards, wood laminate flooring, new ceilings, fixtures and energy saving LED lights.
“The unit now offers a more appealing environment for our patients,” said Michael Fener, executive director of Plainview Hospital. “We’ve added the option of single rooms, with the hope of making the experience more pleasant for patients and staff alike. So, it’s a win-win all around –for our patients, for our employees and for our community.”
The eight-month-long renovation also included the creation of a new nurses’ station and staff lounge, along with a nourishment station that offers snacks and drinks for patients and their family members.
“We’re thrilled with the new unit,” said Lana Marasco, nurse manager. “Our staff is one big team and it gives us a sense of pride to work here,” she said. “I’ve worked at Plainview hospital for 16 years, and I’ve been here in the telemetry unit for six of those years. This new and beautiful environment is uplifting.”
