North Hempstead hosts annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

The Town of North Hempstead recently hosted the annual Hispanic Heritage Month on October 5 at the “Yes We Can” Community Center.

Attendees were treated to mariachi singers, a dance performance from Las Guadalupanas of St. Brigid Church, music from Fiesta Tropical Triple M Band, and readings by students from the Westbury Union Free School District.

Food was provided by the Yanira Chicon food truck.

The Town honored Hispanic American individuals who have made a difference in their community including:

• Jose Fernando Garcia
• Ren Zelaya
• Valerie Smith

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated each year from September 15 to October 15. September 15 marks the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, with Mexico’s anniversary of its independence on September 16.
