Student Activities

According to French writer and film director Marguerite Duras, “A true journalist is someone who looks at the world and the way it works, someone who takes a close look at things every day and reports what he or she sees, someone who represents the world for others.”  This maxim clearly and accurately epitomizes the efforts consistently displayed by juniors Renjini Antony and Harvinder Bassi throughout the school year.  As sectional editors, these two students complement each other nicely; they lead by example within the confines of the Student Activities Office and they act as mentors for the younger members of the staff. Renjini and Harvinder are both well-rounded and talented students, whose utmost devotion and pride for their schoolwork, coupled with their endless contributions to The Chariot, truly embody the type of individuals they are. Without their tireless hard work and dedication, the completion of the Student Council election issue could not have been possible.  It comes as no surprise that Renjini and Harvinder were selected as co-editors-in-chief for the 2013-2014 school year. Congratulations!

Music

Noelle and Ciara are two of the most valuable, hard-working, dedicated students the New Hyde Park Music Department is privileged to have amongst its members.  They have been the mainstay and heartbeat of our Department for the past four years.  While they are members of the Orchestra, they are well known to the entire Music staff as the girls to go to when you need help getting things done.  They help put the concert programs together, help with fund raising efforts, NYSSMA, the District Music Festival and anything that needs to be done.  Luckily, they will still be with us next year, training other students to take on responsibilities and jobs so that the traditions they have established will continue.  They are truly examples of what a Student of the Month is and this is our way of saying thank you for everything; we really are grateful.

Physical Education

Ariana is an outstanding student in the Leader’s Physical Education program. Ariana is an excellent role model for the younger students in and out of the gymnasium. In each class, Ariana demonstrates leadership, communication and cooperation skills. Ariana represents New Hyde Park Memorial with pride and shows school spirit by being on the Varsity Cheerleading squad as well. Ariana is respected by her peers and the Physical Education staff for being a hardworking student and athlete. Congratulations Ariana!

Camila is a very inquisitive young lady who is willing to put forth an effort to ensure that she accomplishes all tasks with efficiency and effectiveness. Because of these traits, Camila is a clear candidate for this month’s Student of the Month for English.  Congratulations, Camila, on being selected and thank you for all your hard work and dedication to your studies.  Job well done!

Christina Saji displays intellect and inquisitiveness for the sciences that is truly exemplary.  Christina is an amazing role model for her classmates.  She is a perfect example of a dedicated, focused, and hardworking student who truly values her education.  Always insightful, Christina asks questions that reveal her understanding of the science curriculum and how conscientious she is regarding her studies.  Christina has maintained an outstanding average in Advanced Science all year and has shown that she can balance both academics and extracurricular activities in a remarkable way.

Over the past year I have had the opportunity to get to know Christina and learned that she not only has impressive accomplishments in the classroom, but she also applies her hard work and devotion to helping younger students succeed with their studies by tutoring and encouraging children.  Christina loves playing volleyball, soccer, and basketball and her passion for being involved makes her a well-rounded individual.  I was so ecstatic to learn that Christina had the dream of becoming a cardiologist.  I truly believe that Christina possesses the work ethic to make all of her academic dreams come true.  Whatever she puts her mind to, she will surely accomplish.  New Hyde Park Memorial is extremely fortunate to have such a motivated, meticulous, and sincere student like Christina.
