Camellia Weekend at Planting Fields

Planting Fields welcomes visitors to its 7th Annual Camellia Weekend on Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m..  

This year, the fabulous camellia blooms of more than 200 camellia shrubs and trees will be accompanied by wonderful live music by doo-wop group The Clusters and Quatrain Barbershop Quartet.

Entrance to the Park and Camellia House is free. There will also be live steel drum music in the Main Greenhouse all day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In Coe Hall ($10 per person, Members and children under 12 are free) children, make your own greenhouse craft (for children only) watercolor painting workshop, the Magic of Robert Austin in the Great Hall. (1, 2 and 3 p.m.) and, of course, visit the Mad Hatter at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party with storytellers Jonathan Kruk and Andrew Sadler as the Queen of Hearts.  

Coe Hall will be open for self-guided visits.  

There are short walking tours in the Camellia House and there will be camellia plants available for purchase outside, courtesy of Martin Viette Nurseries.

“The camellias at Planting Fields are one of Long Island’s great treasures and an extraordinary winter attraction,” said Henry B. Joyce, executive director of Planting Fields Foundation. “This will be an exciting weekend for our visitors.”

Enjoy live music with The Clusters (doo-wop group) & Quatrain Barbershop Quartet throughout the day.  Don’t forget to stop by the Camellia Plant Sale provided by Martin Viette Nurseries and you can purchase your own camellias!

11 a.m. – Live Music begins

1 p.m. – Henry B. Joyce talks about the Camellia House

2 p.m. – Vincent Simeone discusses the camellias 

3 p.m. – Henry B. Joyce talks about the Camelia House

4 p.m. –  Camellia House closes
