Michael Schiumo, aged 13, a resident of Manhasset and a student at Holy Child Academy in Old Westbury won first place in the Kellenberg High School annual math bee. The math bee requires participants to calculate mathematical problems in their heads within 10 seconds. Twenty six participants, two champions from 13 different grade schools, were all keen competitors. Students were eliminated after just one incorrect answer. After 14 rounds, Michael Schiumo answered the last question and emerged victorious. Michael will start Chaminade High School in the fall.
