Hofstra’s Department of Engineering has launched a new Master of Science in Engineering Management program designed to give practicing engineers the skills necessary to advance in their careers.
The MS in Engineering Management curriculum combines courses currently available at the Frank G. Zarb School of Business with several new engineering courses offered at the Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science and aims to bridge the gap between the technical side of engineering and business management.
The program, which began in the spring 2019 semester, is the only program of its kind on Long Island that is partnered with a nationally accredited business school. Graduates of the program will be qualified for careers as project engineers, engineering managers, and product engineers at top tier tech-based manufacturing and service firms and in government agencies.
“The MS in Engineering Management is designed to increase an engineer’s knowledge and skill set with regard to management, enabling her or him to become a strong and effective manager and to ascend the corporate ladder into management positions,” said Dr. Richard Puerzer, program director and chairman of the Department of Engineering.
The 30-credit program offers students hybrid study options with both on-campus and online classes available through the school.
Participating students will also be eligible to participate in the DeMatteis Co-op Program and work in a paid position at a company related to their field for a period of six to eight months prior to graduation. Working as a co-op gives students valuable hands-on experience and is a tremendous advantage for graduating students seeking full-time employment.
