The Hillside Public Library, in conjunction with Assemblyman Ed Ra’s office, is doing a School Supply Drive. We appeal to our patrons to please consider this worthy cause, and there is a bin in the library where your donations can be placed. Included in the needed items are: backpacks, binders, crayons, erasers, calculators, highlighters, rulers, composition books, scissors, markers, pens and pencils and other school supplies. We thank you for your generosity.

Book Discussion: Armchair Historians Wednesday, August 25 at 7 p.m. The book being discussed is: The Black Hand: The Epic War Between a Brilliant Detective and the Deadliest Secret Society in American History; By: Stephan Talty

Art with Alma! Fall into Apples Friday, September 3 at 7 p.m. Paint Night! Sketching and Acrylics
Supplies: Canvas or paint/watercolor paper, 12×16 in., yet any other size can work too. Acrylic Paints: red, blue, yellow, white and black. 3 different sized brushes: A very fine one for details (pointed round 5), a medium (flat or angle) and a larger (flash wash 3/4) one for the background. Tools: A cup with water, paper towel, mixing plastic pallet (can be a paper plate)

Book Discussion: Classics Book Club Wednesday, September 8 at 7 p.m. The book being discussed is: “The Stranger” by Albert Camus.The title character is Meursault, an indifferent French settler in Algeria described as “a citizen of France domiciled in North Africa, a man of the Mediterranean,”yet one who hardly shares in the traditional Mediterranean culture. Several weeks after his mother’s funeral, he kills an Arab man in French Algiers, who was involved in a conflict with one of Meursault’s neighbors. Meursault is tried and sentenced to death. The story is divided into two parts, presenting Meursault’s first-person narrative view before and after the murder, respectively.

Fall Craft Corner Thursday, September 9 at 6:30 p.m. Create a beautiful autumn craft to decorate your home! A $5 materials fee will collected at the beginning of the program. Cash only. Please note this is an adult craft program.

Jump for Joy Friday, August 20 at 10 a.m. Ages: 18 months- 4 years (with parent/caregiver). A fun filled movement program with music & dancing!

Baking with Chef Rob Friday, August 20 at 7 p.m. All Ages- Family Fun! Learn how to bake Cookies and Cream Ice Cream, yummy & delicious!

Cooking & Baking with Chef Rob! Monday, August 23 at 7 p.m. Join Chef Rob’s Spring Food Festival- “Summer Food Festival (part 3)” live on Facebook! Family fun for all ages! Go to the library’s website and Click the links for recipes. If you will be baking/cooking along, please have your ingredients, bowls, and measuring spoons ready.
