Hempstead Town Hall gets bomb threat

A bomb threat phoned into the Town of Hempstead Town Hall late last Friday morning prompted an evacuation of all employees in two town buildings for five hours, according to Nassau County Police.

Third Squad detectives said a female telephone operator, 55, working for the Town of Hempstead received a call on Aug. 16 at 11:30 a.m. from a man who said there was bomb planted in one of the Town Hall buildings at 1 Washington Street. 

Two Town of Hempstead Buildings were immediately evacuated with no reported injuries. 

Nassau County Arson/Bomb Squad and Canine Units searched the buildings but found no bomb, police said. Hempstead Police and Town of Hempstead Public Safety personnel secured the area during the evacuation. 

Employees were permitted back inside the buildings later that day at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Police threat the bomb threat is still under investigation.
