You may register for programs at hillsidelibrary.info/events. You need to have your library barcode number for registration. The library subscribes to several museum passes for the enjoyment and entertainment of our patrons, holders of Hillside Library cards in good standing. A household is able to reserve just one museum pass per month; patrons are responsible for checking the museum’s hours of operation for the borrowed pass.
The library collects used cell phones (with their chargers) for charity. Also, the library collects reading glasses. In addition, the library collects canned food (we request cans only) for Island Harvest; the donations you supply help provide for those less fortunate, and we thank you.

Free blood pressure screenings Saturday, Sept. 28, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Make a Hand-Sewn Apron Wednesdays, Oct. 2 and 9, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Would you like to learn how to design and sew your own apron? The objective of this 2-session project is to learn simple sewing stitches; running, hemming, and backstitching. This project is a hand sewing project. The fee of $8.00 is due by September 27. For a list of the materials you require, please go to the library’s website and click on the program.
Book Discussion – Fresh Fiction Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The book being discussed is: The Girl From Berlin by Ronald Balson. Ada Baumgarten was born in Berlin 1918, the daughter of an accomplished first-chair violinist, & herself a violin prodigy, Ada’s life was full of the rich culture of Berlin’s interwar society. As the tides of history turned, it was her extraordinary talent that would carry her through an unraveling society.
Nassau County Property Tax Exemptions Lecture Thursday, Oct. 3, 6:30 – 8 p.m. Presented by Town of North Hempstead Receiver of Taxes, Charles Berman. Attend this important lecture to learn more about the property tax exemptions offered by Nassau County and the new changes to the New York State STAR program.
To Kill a Mockingbird Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
A Performance Reading by David Houston and Melanie Lipton in the style of radio drama, with music from the film score. From the Pulitzer-Prize winning novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. The program features the trial of Tom Robinson, a black man accused of a brutal crime, seen through the eyes and actions of Atticus Finch, Tom’s defense attorney, and Finch’s 9-year old daughter Scout.
