AARP Driver’s Safety Course at Parkville

An AARP Driver’s Safety Course will be given on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Parkville branch, 10 Campbell Street in New Hyde Park. This is a refresher driving course for drivers ages 50 and over for reduction in points or discount on insurance. This is a six-hour class; please bring your lunch. AARP member fee: $20.00; Non-AARP member fee: $25.00. Checks only. Registration is ongoing by calling 516-466-8055, ext. 273.

Back-To-School Supply Drive at Main and Parkville: Sponsored by Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum and Manhasset-Lakeville Water-Fire District

Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D–Great Neck) is teaming up with the Manhasset-Lakeville Water-Fire District to sponsor a back-to-school supply drive.
Donors can drop off new or unused supplies at the Main library and Parkville branch through Aug. 27 during library hours. Main is located at 159 Bayview Avenue. Parkville is at 10 Campbell Street in New Hyde Park. Requested supplies include: Backpacks, notebooks, No. 2 pencils, colored pencils, colored markers, crayons, and glue sticks.

“We can all do our part to ensure every student is prepared to thrive in the new school year,” Birnbaum said. “I am proud to once again partner with the Manhasset-Lakeville Water-Fire District to sponsor this school supply drive and thank residents for their ongoing support of this effort.”

Board of Trustees Special Meeting at Parkville

A special meeting of the Board of Trustees is scheduled for Monday, August 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Parkville Branch, 10 Campbell Street (off Lakeville Road), New Hyde Park. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. Confirm with the Library at 466-8055 that there has been no change in meeting date, time or location.

West Egg Book Club at Station

The West Egg Book Club will discuss “The Ministry of Utmost Happiness” by Arundhati Roy on Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Station branch, 26 Great Neck R.d, Gardens at Great Neck Plaza, above Best Market. Matinee Film at Main

The next Wednesday Matinee, is “Picnic,” a 1955 film about a drifter’s plan to finally settle down. It will be shown on Aug. 28 at 2 p.m. at the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

Parkville Pageturners

“Our Souls at Night” by Kent Haruf is the book choice for discussion on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 1:30 p.m. at the Parkville Branch, 10 Campbell St., New Hyde Park.
