H. Frank Carey names November Seniors of the Month

H. Frank Carey High School students Maia Membreno and Mark Spano have been recognized as the school’s Seniors of the Month for November.

Maia is an exceptionally intelligent young woman who has made a substantial impact at Carey. Her commitment, dedication and hard work are evident both in and out of the classroom. Her superior academic achievements placed her in the top of her senior class and resulted in inductions into the National, Science, World Language, English and Art honor societies. This active senior is an exemplary leader at school and holds the positions of Editor in Chief of the yearbook, corresponding secretary of the Class Board, secretary of the National Honor Society and secretary of Gender Equality. Additionally, she is an amazing athlete and plays on the varsity field hockey and varsity lacrosse teams. This AP Scholar with Honor student also finds time to tutor younger students in numerous subjects.

Mark is an outstanding and talented senior who brings integrity, spirit and a level of respect to all of his endeavors. A talented athlete, this committed and impressive senior is captain of the varsity football team where he was named News 12 Player of the Week and he is also a valued player on the varsity baseball team. Additionally, this dedicated student is the vice president of the Class of 2019, vice president of FBLA, a staff writer for the Carey Clipper and a member of the yearbook staff.  He has also been inducted into the National Honor Society and the Business Honor Society. Most recently, he was awarded the prestigious Nassau Zone Outstanding Physical Education Award. This inspiring young man can often be found tutoring other students and serving as a mentor for seventh-graders. He has volunteered his time as a referee for the Franklin Square PAL and has worked to put together Thanksgiving baskets for underprivileged families. He is a true leader and role model.
