Great Neck Troop 10 hikes Harriman

The Island Now

By Dr. Dwight Rosenstein, Scoutmaster

Boy Scout Troop 10 of Great Neck recently completed a four-mile day hike in Harriman State Park. Twenty-eight scouts took the Suffern-Bear Mountain Trail south from Route 106 up to Big Hill Shelter. The shelter at the top of Big Hill Mountain offered great views of the valley below, distant mountains and the NYC skyline.

Five patrols each carried the ingredients needed to cook a hearty lunch of meat vegetables and rice on lightweight stoves. Some scouts were tested on their proficiency in the use of knives, saws and hatchets.

Others were tested on fire building and safety. Some troop parents hiked the S-BM trail. All had a great time on a beautiful Sunday in the mountains.
Troop 10 meets on Sundays at 9:30 am. If you are interested to join, please contact Dr. Dwight Rosenstein at djrosenstein@gmail.com.
