The junior firefighters of the Great Neck Alert Fire Company recently held their annual dinner and officer elections for 2019. Alert Firefighter and Past President John Motchkavitz swore in the newly elected officers for 2019: Captain Julia Motchkavitz; 1st Lieutenant Maya Garfinkel; 2nd Lieutenant Lauren Murphy; Recording Secretary Abigail Garcia; and Financial Secretary Alexandra Kessler. Motchkavitz is the Juniors 38th Captain, following in the footsteps of her dad, John, who was the Juniors 3rd Captain in 1984.
During the dinner, Ex-Captain Seth Newman was honored for his dedication and service to the Alert Junior Firefighters program. Newman joined the Juniors in September 2015 and served as second and first lieutenant in 2017. In 2018, he served as captain of the Juniors.
The Junior Firefighters program is for young adults between the ages of 12 and 17. They meet twice a month and receive training in first aid, CPR, fire safety and participate in other firefighting drills and activities.
