Once again it is time to vote on the school budget and more significant the vote for the position of school board trustee.
The school board is responsible for 70 percent of your tax bill so choose wisely. The Herricks budget calls for $99 million in 2011-12 and will grow to at least 106.5 million in three years from now due to raises approved by the present board (excluding Paul Ehrbar) and president Chris Turner even though we were informed by Superintendent (of Schools) John Bierwirth that all economic indicators were forecasting a major downturn.
But the board moved on hastily to approve $12 million in raises anyway.
Even giving raises to people who weren’t hired yet for next school year by raising the base salary, against one board members wishes.
Simply put you can go along with business as usual and vote for the Turner/ Singh team or you can vote for someone with vision, business skills and fiscal responsibility for your tax dollars.
That is why I am asking you to support Jim Gounaris for Herricks school board trustee.
