GNPS/TV programs focus on culture, education, schools

The Island Now

Programs currently airing on Great Neck Public Schools Television (GNPS/TV) are: Focus on Education, South Middle Cultural Heritage Celebration, North Middle Spotlight, and South High Spotlight. Spotlight programs feature school news, sports, and events in a lively, magazine-format.

GNPS/TV programs are available on demand, 24/7, on the school district website, www.greatneck.k12.ny.us (click on the GNPS/TV logo near the top of the main page), or by going directly to http://tv.greatneck.k12.ny.us/on-demand.html.

Programs can also be viewed in the incorporated villages of Great Neck on Cablevision Channel 75 and on Verizon Channel 32. Airing times in program descriptions below are for Cablevision and Verizon viewing.

Focus on Education

Focus on Education is an ongoing series hosted by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Teresa Prendergast, highlighting what’s new and interesting in the district. This edition features guests Dr. Heather Sweet-Lazos, Assistant Principal of E.M. Baker School, and Neepa Redito, Assistant Principal of Lakeville School. Focus on Education airs at 8 a.m., 12 p.m., 4 p.m., 8 p.m.

South Middle Cultural Heritage Celebration

This program features songs, dances, poetry readings, and more from the 14th annual South Middle Cultural Heritage Celebration, which celebrates the cultural diversity of the school. Performances included: Chinese Yo-Yo, Taekwondo, Korean percussion, Korean K-Pop, and traditional dances from the Dominican Republic, China, India, Greece, and more. South Middle Cultural Heritage Celebration airs at 9 a.m., 1 p.m., 5 p.m., and 9 p.m.

North Middle Spotlight

North Middle Spotlight focuses on several events at North Middle School. Highlights include: an overview of the school’s Cultural Heritage Celebration and Talent Show, highlights from the musical “Shrek,” the Applebee’s breakfast fundraiser for Relay for Life, and more! North Middle Spotlight airs at 10:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 10:30 p.m.

South High Spotlight

South High Spotlight is a show that is filmed, edited, and anchored entirely by South High students. Highlights from this episode include: the Martin Luther King Assembly, a look at the Ceramics Club, a montage from the performance of “The Sound of Music,” an inside look at the Improv Troupe, and more. South High Spotlight airs at 11 a.m., 3 p.m., 7 p.m., and 11 p.m.

GNPS/TV Programming

GNPS/TV programming reflects the offerings of the Great Neck Public Schools and the achievements of its students and staff. Programs are student-produced.
