Halloween comes early at New Hyde Park Road

New Hyde Park Road School fourth-graders Briana Ching and Mikalyla Lio thought the “bat cave” was creepy.

Students at New Hyde Park Road School in the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park School District enjoyed Halloween early thanks to a holiday-themed obstacle course designed by their physical education teacher Kerri Rudd.

“The Haunted Gym” was made up of a boney graveyard, a skeleton grave, haystacks, cornstalks and spooky spider webs that were placed strategically throughout the room to provide students with a great physical activity and lots of fun. Students took turns in pairs as they raced through the course, leaping, jumping and crawling to get through each section.

Ms. Rudd said she creates the obstacle course each year to remind students of the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle and to reinforce the movement concepts they learn in physical education class. She said the students look forward to participating in the obstacle course each year.
