Get a handle on the vandals

The Island Now

There has been some talk that the increase in vandalism in Williston Park is somehow related to an anti-loitering law recently enacted in the nearby Village of East Williston.

Whether or not there is any truth to that shouldn’t matter.

A service station owner says two of his windows have been broken in the late night hours after the station is closed. The director of the Weigand Bros. Funeral Home, across the street, says teenagers are hanging out on the lawn and riding skateboards. He said garbage has been regularly strewn in the parking lot.

These are not major felonies but they do have a negative impact on the quality of life. The police should do whatever it takes to send a message to the

offending teenager that this will not be tolerated.
