Friends of Port Rowing will hold its annual gala fundraiser on Feb. 1 at the Village Club of Sands Point. Friends of Port Rowing supports the community rowing program whose mission is to build strength and character, teach sportsmanship and discipline, and instill self-confidence in young people through the sport of rowing.

The gala will honor founder and president, Mitch Tamkin, who recently accepted the U.S. Rowing Jack Kelly Award at the annual convention in San Diego. Tamkin’s leadership upholds the highest level of coaching, encourages the rowers to reach their full potential as athletes, and directs Port Rowing to be a contributing member in our local community.

Executive Director Holly Byrne says, “As we celebrate the journey of Friends of Port Rowing, we take a look back to the start line and honor our founding visionary who has stood at the helm from the beginning, Mitch Tamkin, winner of the U.S. Rowing Jack Kelly Award. We also plan for our future by ensuring anyone who wants to row and grow has a seat in the boat.”

The gala will kick off with live musical performances by varsity team members as well as a display of original art and poetry followed by dinner and dancing. A silent auction and raffle prizes will all support the cause of enhancing the fleet of boats for all future rowers. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available. Direct inquires can be sent to Holly Byrne, executive director, at holly@portrowing.com. To learn more or reserve tickets, visit www.portrowing.org.
