‘Fiddler’ stages return to Temple Israel

The Island Now

“The Fiddler” came back to Temple Israel of Great Neck recently, and lots of people saw him.

The Temple Israel Players—the congregation’s theatrical troupe—staged the classic Broadway production of Fiddler on the Roof for a fourth time, selling out all shows.

“As it works out,” said Eileen Putterman, one of the show’s producers, “we have put on the show about every ten years in the history of our group. It was a hit in 1983, and then again in 1993 and 2002. The producers thought it was time to do it again!”

The cast included many children along with their parents and many cast members, who were veterans of past Temple Israel productions.

The large cast included Robert Aizer, Harold Citron, Deborah Clayden and her daughter, Zara, Mark Cwern, Hannah Eshaghoff and her brother, Joey, Lori Freudman, Keyvan Frouzan and his daughter, Danielle, Kiumarz and Rachel Geula, Marylin Goldberg, Dan Goldberger and his son, Eli, Brandon Greenspan, Kim and Jon Kaiman and their daughter, Iyana, Abe Kanfer and his daughter, Barrett, and Ron Klempner.

Other cast members were Kenneth M. Leff, Andy Nadler, Gary Noren, Ofra Panzer, Harriet Picker and her son, Ari, Mark Putter and his daughter, Amanda, Eileen and Mickey Putterman, Lillian Rokhsar, Lois and Gary Sazer, Ruth Schelberg, Nancy Schoen, Robin Silberg, Diana Stein, Maxine Vogel, Debbie Volk and her daughter, Amanda, and Rebecca and Dan Wotman and their daughter, Sophia.

The performers were accompanied by a congregational orchestra, including Sharon Bernstein, Cyrus Kahn, Jared Kaiman, Deanna Stecker, and Matthew Weinstein.

The team of producers who have staged many of the recent Temple Israel Players’ shows collaborated on this production. They include Ron Klempner, Mark Putter, Eileen Putterman, and Lois Sazer.

“Shows are always fun for the congregation to put on and fun for the congregation and the community to see,” Mrs. Putterman said. “I am sure this show was no exception.”
