Musicals of Gershin on tap for church concert

The music and lyrics of Stephen Sondheim and George and Ira Gershwin are at the heart American musical theater. The Congregational Church of Manhasset will celebrate the contributions of these three composers with the concert, Fascinating Rhythm.

The church’s volunteer chancel choir and professional soloists will perform the music of Sondheim and the Gershwins on Sunday, Oct. 6. Some highlights of the concert will be Sondheim’s “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” “Into the Woods,” “Sweeney Todd,” “Follies,” “A Little Night Music,” and “Company.” 

Popular music for the Broadway stage, the jazz musician, and even an opera, “Porgy and Bess” will showcase the artistic range of the Gershwin brothers. The concert is under the musical direction of Craig Tocher, with piano accompaniment by Judith Feuss and Craig Tocher.

 The show begins at 3 p.m. Light refreshments will be served and a donation of $15 is requested.
