Elaine Phillips: advocate for uncertified public school teachers

The Island Now

Elaine Phillips recently spoke to a group of constituents where she vociferously advocated for charter schools and debased professional, certified teachers.

She is certainly trying very hard to be New York State’s Betsy DeVos. How dare she think that voters in the 7th State Senate district can be hoodwinked by her hogwash.

Clearly, she speaks for the Charter School PAC that donated at least $2 million or more to her last election.

Her claims that she supports public education are clearly phony. I can only say that this is her attempt to cripple our school districts and destroy the teaching profession in the long run.

Sen. Phillips does not want to know and/or understand that charter school creation is a corporate move to privatize K-12 education in the U.S. for their private profits.

How? The aim is to defund public schools and students.

Finally, if she thinks the charter schools are so great, why did they ask New York State — as a necessity for their survival — for permission to hire uncertified and unqualified persons as teachers?

This is a double whammy. Why should children in New York State have unqualified teachers? Why should we the public accept unqualified teachers for our children in New York State? We must protect our public schools and students.

And this is why I urge every voter in the 7th state senatorial district to vote for Anna Kaplan, a fierce supporter of our public schools, as our new state denator on November 6. We must save our schools from the likes of Elaine Phillips.
