Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso has announced that the state legislature passed the Child Victim’s Act, which he is a co-sponsor.

“Hopefully, this will bring justice to people who were victimized when they were children,” D’Urso said.

When signed into law, this will increase the statute of limitations for cases of child sexual abuse and will allow child victims to file a civil case against their abuser until they become 55; previously the age limit was 23. For criminal cases, victims can seek prosecution until they turn 28. It also includes a one-year window during which victims of any age or time limit can come forward to prosecute.

This bill was originally sponsored by former Assemblywoman Marge Markey in 2006.
