The drunken driver who crashed into Roslyn Village Veterinarian in June 2018, resulting in the building being condemned, was sentenced to 2 1/3 to seven years in prison on Thursday, according to the Nassau County district attorney’s office.

Wymann Wiggins, 31, of Farmingdale, crashed into the Mineola Avenue veterinarian’s office just after midnight June 18, 2018, after refusing orders to pull over on the Long Island Expressway from a Nassau County police sergeant, according to Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas.

“The defendant, driving a 2017 BMW, refused to stop and instead continued driving, eventually exiting the highway onto the service road at exit 37,” a news release from Singas’ office said. “He then got off the service road and drove north on Mineola Avenue at speeds up to 121 miles an hour.”

After driving on Mineola Avenue for approximately one mile, the office said, Wiggins lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the front face of Roslyn Village Veterinarian, bringing down a corner of the office. While no animals or humans were injured in the crash, the damage resulted in the building being condemned, and a passenger in the front seat of the BMW suffered a collapsed lung as a result of the accident.

Wiggins pleaded guilty on March 1 to two counts of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs (a Class D felony), one count of second-degree attempted assault (a Class E felony), and one count of criminal mischief in the fourth degree (a Class A misdemeanor).

“It’s a miracle that no one was killed as a result of this defendant’s use of the LIE as his personal speedway,” Singas said. “The defendant drove 121 miles an hour, while both drunk and high, and endangered the life of every single person on the roadway that night.”

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Christopher Casa and Deputy Bureau Chief Katie Zizza of the Vehicular Crimes Bureau. The defendant is represented by John LoTurco of the Huntington-based firm Barket, Epstein, Kearon, Aldea and LoTurco.

A call to Roslyn Village Veterinarian was unavailing.
