Dec. 7, what have we learned?

The Island Now

Dec. 7 1941, imagine waking up to the news, imagine the horror and fear in the hearts of those directly and indirectly involved.

Mothers, fathers, children, all trying to make sense of the evil and hatred that transpired. The attack on Pearl Harbor forced our hand as we entered the Second World War. A especially terrible war that was supposed to end all wars.

Well, here we are 76 years and multiple wars and conflicts later and what have we learned? Nothing! Absolutely Nothing!

The world still refuses to see eye to eye, there are too many pulling it apart. Hatred, ideological differences, power, greed, when will it end?

Today, while California is burning, Isis is still around, North Korea is threatening and the world is still torn.

It’s the holiday season, a time to reflect and be near family. A time to be thankful and giving. A time to try and figure out a way to end the evil and begin to spread peace.

Ask a child like my Godson Rosario about love and kindness. Ask my children about doing good for others.

We don’t have a magic formula, we worked hard, as our parents did to raise them with values. To raise them with compassion for their fellow man and a love for the world they live in. We may all go off course for a while but ultimately, we get back on the road.

We all need to pray that the world finds a way to drive in the same direction. There should be no little children who spend the majority of the day hungry and fearful.

No moms and dads worried that they cannot keep their families safe or that have to bury their loved ones prematurely.

There should only be the stretched out arms of our fellow humans embracing one another when we need it.

God bless you all and never forget that we are destined to relive the past if we do not work on the present. Then only can we make the future a safe and beautiful one for the people we love.
