Cub Scouts announce ‘Fall Roundup’ event

The Island Now

Cub Scout Pack 101 invites Manhasset’s boys and their parents to check out Cub Scouting at its Annual “Fall Round-Up” on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Shelter Rock Elementary School.

Cub Scout Pack 101 serves the boys in the 1st through 5th grade who attend elementary school at Shelter Rock, St. Mary’s or Our Lady of Grace.  Chartered by the Theodore Roosevelt Council of the Boy Scouts of America for more than 50 years, Cub Pack 101 delivers programs that help young boys build character, values and self-confidence.  This is done is a fun environment with programs run by trained parent volunteer leaders.

Last year Pack 101 had over 75 Cub Scouts served by 20 parent volunteers who organize meetings, events and activities for the boys.   Annual Pack events include: the “Pinewood Derby”, the Pack Picnic, the Blue and Gold Awards Banquet, the Memorial Day Parade, Sports Night, Annual Fishing trip, Popcorn Sales Program and Cub/Parent Camping weekend.  Special Pack events include trips to West Point, Teddy Roosevelt’s home at Sagamore Hill, a “Raingutter Regatta”, a “Space Derby” and other events that parents and boys want to do.

In addition to Pack 101 events, the boys are organized into smaller groups, called Dens, where they participate in activities that are appropriate to their grade level.  They may visit a firehouse or police station, climb a rock wall, build a birdhouse, learn how to cook (and clean up!), earn badges of accomplishment and a myriad of other activities and events.

At the “Fall Round-Up” parents and prospective scouts will have the opportunity to meet the parent volunteers and some of our boys and learn more about the program.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to sign-up for our Annual Fishing Trip, to be held on Sept. 22.
