County museum to offer kids art labs

The Island Now

Treat your children to the wonders of summer at Nassau County Museum of Art. They will experience art in and around the museum, and will enjoy and learn from the natural beauty of the trails, forests, gardens and ponds to be found on the grounds of the museum’s 145-acre Gold Coast estate.

Summer Art Lab 2014 features two two-week sessions: Session I from July 21 to Aug. 1 and Session II from Aug. 11 to Aug. 22. Each session offers classes for children ages 5 to 8 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and ages 9 to 13 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Classes are held five days a week with a half-hour snack break and are taught by professional art educators.

Summer Art Lab 2014 programs will be full of indoor and outdoor adventures that offer playful and creative opportunities for children through a mix of art making, science activities, group projects and more. Activities include hands-on art making (printmaking, sculpture, painting and more), sketching, gallery games, story time, outdoor scavenger hunts, hiking and journaling.

Tuition for Summer Art Lab 2014 is $650 per child for museum members, $750 per child for nonmembers and includes the materials fee for the full two-week session.
