Recreation center at the Parkwood Sports Complex

The Parkwood Sports Complex Recreation Center opens Saturday, June 29 and runs through August 25, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Residents with a current park pass are welcome (pool membership is not necessary). Thursday, July 4, join us for a special celebration from 12 to 6 p.m. Every Tuesday and Thursday evening between 8 and 9 p.m. is free adult night basketball. Your park pass is required for admission. Camp Parkwood Sports Camp Option

The Camp Parkwood sports option is now open to second graders. Now campers grades two through five can add a full morning of sports each week to their regularly scheduled activities at Camp Parkwood. This is an opportunity to focus on a variety of sports clinics with highly-trained professionals (and only $75 per week additional). July 4th in the Park District

Celebrate the Fourth of July at Steppingstone Park, Thursday, July 4 at 8 p.m. when Dean Karahalis and the Concert Pops perform. All performances in Steppingstone Park are free for Great Neck Park District residents only with a valid park pass. Each park pass holder is allowed to bring two guests. Summer tennis Camp

Parkwood Tennis Camp, open to players ages 6 to 17 of all abilities, runs from July 1 through August 23. The camp offers an optional early drop-off. Participants are evaluated to address individual needs. Mornings consist of drills, point play and physical conditioning. The second half of the day consists of match play and competitive games. Parkwood Family Aquatic Center

It’s never too late to register for the Parkwood Family Aquatic Center. It’s the best way to enjoy a stay-cation in Great Neck. Enjoy free events and programs with your membership. On Wednesday, July 10 from 8 to 10 p.m. join the fun at the adult night party, open to all pool members and their paid guests (regular guest fees apply). Nature program: Early summer seasonal stroll

On Saturday, July 13 at 10 a.m., an early summer seasonal stroll in Kings Point Park. Meet in the paved lot at the Steamboat Road entrance. Register online at gnparks.org or call 516-482-0355. Children under 16 may not attend.

Sail this summer at Steppingstone Marina

In addition to adult sailing programs, family courses, new waterfront activities, kayak and sailboat rentals, they have a summertime sailing program (ages 7 to 17), July 1 to Aug. 30. For those who love to sail or would like to learn, this full or half-day program will have you “on board” in no time. Register weekly or for the whole summer. There are additional activities at Parkwood Sports Complex and optional transportation, daily lunches and field trips. Defensive driving classes at Great Neck House

Great Neck House continues to offer Empire Safety Council defensive driving classes. The classes run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the first Saturday of every month. The next class offered is on July 6. To sign up for a class or for more information, call Great Neck House at 516-482-0355.

Special Sunday and Monday family events

The whole family will enjoy KerboomKidz and more in Firefighters Park on Sunday, July 7, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Have fun while getting some exercise including dance, Zumba, gymnastics, obstacles and more. On Monday, July 8, join them in Allenwood Park at 6 p.m. for a puppet show.
