Wednesday, June 26 is the last day of school in Port Washington. It is also the date that Residents Forward’s “PW Clean Waterways Initiative” is holding a Manhasset Bay cleanup event.
Thanks to Kostal Paddle and Long Island Boat Rentals, volunteers will use their kayaks, paddleboards and boats free of charge. Participants will meet at 11:00 a.m. at Manorhaven Beach Park, 158 Manorhaven Boulevard. A shoreline cleanup is part of the event for those who prefer to stay on dry land.
“The PW Clean Waterways Initiative came out of brainstorming sessions during last year’s Youth Climate Summit,” Residents Forward Executive Director Mindy Germain said. “It is both exciting and comforting to know that our community’s children are so focused on and devoted to keeping our precious water as clean as possible.”
The mission of the “PW Clean Waterways Initiative” is to educate and unite the Port Washington community with action projects to solve pollution in our waterways.
Volunteers should wear old clothing and bring a hat, protective shoes that can get wet, drinking water, sunscreen and bug repellant. Residents Forward will provide latex gloves and trash bags. All ages are encouraged to come and help make a difference, but children under 12 need to be accompanied by an adult.
