Beloved family man and proud WWII Navy veteran passes

Thomas V. Spae of Mineola passed away on Oct. 24, 2017.  He was the beloved husband to the late Virginia, loving mother of Inspector Michael Spae (Commanding Officer of Unit 214 Mineola Auxiliary Police) and the late Kathleen, for 57 years. Spae was also a proud World War II Navy Veteran, having served in the Asiatic – Pacific Theater. Spae retired from Con Edison as an engineer in Ravenswood, Queens. Spae kept busy by volunteering at Corpus Christi Church and 25 years at NYU Winthrop Hospital.  He was a member of Mineola American Legion, VFW and Golden Age Club.  Additionally, he served independently as a welfare friend and visitor the elderly and homebound.  Thomas enjoyed his later years filled with trips and travels with senior groups.  He fished, golfed, gardened and loved to watch baseball – especially the New York Yankees.

Visitation was held Sunday October 29th at Cassidy Funeral Home in Mineola.  A Funeral Mass was Monday, at Corpus Christi Church, followed by interment at St. Charles Cemetery.
