Dear Neighbors, I know that things are difficult right now as we along with the country and the world are facing something that many of us have not seen in our lifetime. I know that we will get through this together as in hard times New Yorkers always stick together.
It is important that we follow the guidelines set forth by the health care experts and practicing social distancing, while I know that many of us are doing that, unfortunately, some are not heeding this advice.
It is important to remember that if you must go out to the supermarket, pharmacy or even to get some fresh air and exercise, make sure that you stay 6 feet away from one another to help reduce the risk of spreading the coronavirus. This will help to flatten the curve of the virus and that can only be done if we all listen and adhere to the guidelines.
Today while we stay home and do our part, many cannot, as they are on the front line doing what is necessary to take care of those who are sick, all the while putting their health in jeopardy.
They are our heroes and we must stand and applaud them. Their bravery is not new to us New Yorkers, we have seen numerous times especially after 9/11. This is who we are, we have always banded together in times of need and this time is no different.
We are uniting to donate supplies and helping the elderly and those with compromised immune systems who cannot go out. More importantly, we are sticking together and showing the rest of the country and world that in a time of crisis, there is no one you want watching your back more than New Yorkers.
I would like to thank Gov. Cuomo and New York State Department of Health Commissioner Howard Zucker for their tireless leadership throughout this crisis.
Most of all, I would like to thank our health care providers, first responders, civil service workers and all the workers who are keeping our essential stores open. Helen Keller had a quote “Alone, we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
This quote rings loud now as together we will get through and New York will come back stronger than ever.
