Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso was invited to show off his cooking skills by participating in the 2019 Chef Showdown at the Atria Cutter Mill in Great Neck. With the theme being peppers, the contest soon became very heated as D’Urso, along with his wife, Maria, battled their opponent, Atria Chef Joaquin Ruano, to create the best meal. The two prepared dishes were then given to judges, singer Debra Toscano and residents Angela Glio and Jack Bredd who, through careful deliberation and debate, decided that Ruano was the victor in a painstakingly close 2 to 1 decision. The food, after being judged, was then given to the Atria residents who visited with D’Urso and enjoyed a musical performance by Toscano.

“Thank you to the Atria Cutter Mill and to resident Bernie Saslow for facilitating this wonderful event,” said D’Urso. “It was a pleasure to see the residents again and partake in this competition. I thoroughly relished the event and I look forward to next year’s showdown.”
