Candidates for village trustee are running unopposed in elections in East Williston, Williston Park and Mineola on Sept. 15.

The elections were originally scheduled for March 18, but were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Voters will have an option to request an absentee ballot.

In East Williston, two trustee spots are up for grabs, with the candidates running unopposed.  One is Trustee James Lark, who joined the board in October. The other is Anthony Gallo, running on the Community Party line.

Village Justice Joseph Sperber will not seek re-election. Two candidates are running to replace him: Emil Samuels of the Community Party and Mitchell Flachner of the Integrity Party.

Voting will take place in Village Hall. Mayor Bonnie Parente said absentee ballots will be available for those who are “unavailable or unable to vote in person.” She said if the governor directs villages to hold elections in some other manner, the village staff will make adjustments to do so.

Two Williston Park trustees are up for re-election and both are unopposed. The two,  William Carr and Mike Uttaro, joined the board in 2012.

A village official said voting will take place at Village Hall from noon to 9 p.m. and that voter turnout is expected to be low enough that it will not create a problem with crowd limits. Absentee ballots can be applied for.

Mineola has two trustees up for re-election, both running unopposed: Paul Periera, who first joined the board in 2008, and Paul Cusato, who joined in 2004. Both are graduates of Mineola High School.

Village Clerk Joe Scalero said the Village Community Center will be the voting station, and  absentee ballots can be submitted up to Election Day.
