As eighth-graders graduating from Carrie Palmer Weber Middle School waited patiently for their respective names to be called during the school’s 2018 moving up ceremony, they had the opportunity to reflect on the last three years with happiness and pride and look forward to their move next door to Paul D. Schreiber High School.
With their soon-to-be former principal Chris Shields extolling their praises before them, and their principal-in-waiting Ira Pernick present to accept them, the Weber Class of 2018 looked on as they were celebrated and praised for rising to the challenge of adolescence and adjustment to their academic careers.
“We learned how to be our own best, unique selves,” said class speaker Mollie Tashlik, who delivered some constructive and inspirational words of advice to complement those from Mr. Shields, Board of Education President Karen Sloan and Superintendent Kathleen Mooney. “We grew academically, and as people, too.”
Mooney advised the students to use their youthful energy to pursue their hopes and dreams and take advantage of the many wonderful opportunities available to them at Schreiber. As a symbolic gesture of this energy, she presented the class with a model of Newton’s Cradle as a gift to illustrate the physics principles of energy and momentum.
“Schreiber is a great place to stay in motion,” she said.
On cue, Mr. Shields and their house assistant principals called the students to the podium to accept their middle school diplomas, as they continued to move forward.
