Village of Plandome trustees approve paving bid

Village of Plandome trustees on Tuesday approved a $534,958 bid for a project that would pave roads within the village, contingent upon the price remaining the same in the spring.

The trustees said they want to be assured that the price quoted by Metro Paving, the company that made the $534,958 bid for the project, will be honored if the work on the roads continues into the spring due to inclement weather.

Trustee Andrew Bartels said the bid was “fair” and “well-qualified.”

Bartels also said that there were eight bids made for the project, but Metro Paving’s bid was chosen because its costs for asphalt and stone curbing were lower than those of other bids.

Among the roads to be paved are South Drive, Valley Road and Middle Drive.

In other business, the board also discussed the topic of proposed legislation for short-term rentals in Plandome.

Plandome resident John Sullivan said he sold a fully furnished home to a buyer, but he began seeing multiple families living in the home at different times.

Sullivan said that seeing multiple families move in and out of the same home can be “disconcerting” to the community.

Despite describing short-term rentals as “not a widespread problem,” Deputy Mayor Ray Herbert said that the board is “anticipating that [they] can become a bigger issue.”

“We are looking into legislation in other villages,” Herbert said. “We will try to draft legislation that will meet the needs of the residents.”

The board will hold its next meeting on Monday, Nov. 9.
