Village of Mineola launches new Web site

The Village of Mineola recently launched its new Web site with new interactive features for residents.

The objective of the revamped site is to make it more user-friendly with clearer delineation of department functions for more ready access to information, Village Clerk Joseph Scalero said.

All department heads will be listed, along with their phone numbers. Inclusion of their e-mail addresses will eventually be added.

“It should be a little easier to navigate,” Scalero said. “It will be far more interactive than our old Web site.”

The new Web site offers an e-subscriber feature for residents to opt to receive e-mail notifications on news from several village departments, including  general village news, parking restrictions, sanitation pick-up

and village recreation.

“They opt in for whatever information they want to receive. As we go forward, as people tell us what we want, we can always add categories,” Scalero said.

Emergency notifications will be posted, as needed, in a large red banner across the home page of the Web site.

Scalero expects the site to evolve as the village receives feed back from residents about specific features they would like to see incorporated.

The new site was developed over the past several months in collaboration with Virtual Town, Scalero said, at a cost of approximately $6,000.

Village government departments and residents were asked for their input.

The village code book, now in the process of recodification, will be accessible online after revisions to the code are completed, Scalero said.

A history of Mineola is also included on the Web site, which maintains the same Web address at http://www.mineola-ny.gov/
