CONTEMPORARY CHINESE ART WITH PROFESSOR THOMAS GERMANO
Friday, Feb. 8 at 11 a.m. The best known contemporary Chinese artists come from different backgrounds and cities all over the country, but they all share a childhood molded by the Cultural Revolution. The effects of this tumultuous time created a common national experience that binds these artists and their style.
Professor Germano will discuss their work in the context of the post Chinese Cultural Revolution and today’s rise of China as a global economic force. Artists included in the discussion are Ai Weiwei, Yue Minjun, Cai Guoqiang, Zhang Xiaogang, Fang Lijun, Gu Wenda, Zeng Fanzhi, Zhang Dali, Wang Guangyi, Zhang Huan, Dik Lui and Wei Dong.
